The College has one of the finest libraries with an impressive collection of medical literature. The library is air-conditioned and it has adequate reading rooms for undergraduate and postgraduate students where they can study. It has a large number of books and journals. It has internet facility to keep the readers abreast of latest medical developments all over the world. The library has also acquired 5 computers. This has served as unique educational support for postgraduate students as well as faculty members.

OBJECTIVES OF THE LIBRARY

The main objective of the library is to provide information and environment that can be helpful in imparting education, promoting research and development of Homoeopathy thereby leading to improved patient care and better management.

MEMBERSHIP

NHMC personnel are eligible for membership in the following manner:

Senior Resident Application forwarded by their HOD
PG students Application forwarded by their HOD
UG students Produce his/her certified I-Card along with membership application
Ex-Faculty Application forwarded through the Dean Surety from incumbent faculty member of the Institution


BORROWING FACILITIES:

The borrowing items and rules regarding these are as follows:

ITEMS BORROWING DURATION REMARKS
Books(EXCEPT REFERENCE SECTION BOOKS) 7 days (for UG students & Interns) 15 days (for Interns posted in Dispensaries) 30 days (for PG students) 1.Reference section books can not be borrowed 2.Textbooks which are in great demand will be issued for only one week for their better utilization amongst the users.

Thesis One day Thesis can be issued to a reader, against a Borrower’s ticket, ONLY on the recommendation of the guide/co-guide/departmental head IN WRITING. THE RECOMMENDING AUTHORITY WILL GIVE AN UNDERTAKING REGARDING PREVENTION OF MISUSE AND DAMAGE TO THE THESIS.
 

 

  1. One Borrower’s ticket is needed for any one item
  2. The renewal of items is permissible only when the item is brought back to the library physically, at the discretion of the issuing staff, based on “Reservation” for the item from other members.
  3. If necessary, the library can call back items issued to members at any time.


ACCESS TO COMPUTER & MULTI-MEDIA FACILITIES:

  • Internet use & printout are available to the FACULTY members PG students only.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARIES :

  • Every department can borrow few books for ready reference. Only those books, which have more than one copy, can be issued to the department against the signature of the departmental head. If single copy, will be kept in reference section only.
  • All the departmental books would be available in the department for ready reference.
  • A proper record will have to be kept by the department for these books and department will be responsible for them.

SC/ST BOOK BANK: 

The library issues the books of SC/ST Book Bank to the SC/ST students only. This service is without any charges. The student is required to produce the SC/ST certificate for availing of this facility.

RIGHTS OF MEMBERS

A library member can

  • Consult reference books within the library
  • Use reading room to study
  • Borrow one book on each card.
  • Use internet facility (for academic purpose

Permanent faculty members can get up to 4 books under the Faculty Scheme for long term issue.

DUTIES OF MEMBERS

  1. Always carry your NHMC/Library I Card when coming to the library
  2. Do not damage any material in the library
  3. Do not tear, fold or underline pages of books, journals or magazines
  4. Inform Library-In-charge if anyone is found involved in any suspicious activity in the library premises
  5. Maintain silence in the library premises
  6. Return documents on time
  7. Do not dislocate documents from its position on the shelves, if not required for consultation
  8. Be polite and gentle in your demeanor
  9. Borrowers have to observe the physical condition of the books/journals before borrowing and return them in the same condition. Any damage at the time of issue should be informed to the issuing staff, otherwise they will be held responsible for any damage noticed at the time of returning
  10. Keep your library clean. Drop all the litter in the litter bins provided inside the reading rooms.
  11. Request others to do the same


PENALTIES

  • OVERDUES: Books - Rs. 03.50/- per week
  • LOST BOOKS/BOUND JOURNALS/CURRENT JOURNALS:If a book is lost, following options are available:
  • Replace with same edition;
  • Replace with latest edition; or
  • If book is out of print, pay the double cost of original book.
  • If a journal is lost, following options are available.
  • Loose journals-2 time cost of journals at present.
  • Bound Journals- cost of journals at present.

DAMAGE BOOKS/BOUND JOURNALS/CURRENT JOURNALS:

Members are liable to replace the damaged document if there is:

  • Tearing of pages
  • Tearing of pages bindings
  • Dog-earing
  • Underlining
  • Any other considered liable by the library staff.

The accounts department of the college will accept the fine.

LOST BORROWER’S TICKET:

  • The loss of borrower’s ticket has to be reported in writing to the library immediately. The duplicate ticket will be issued within six weeks of the report, after payment of Rs.5/- for each ticket. The member will be responsible for any loss, which the library may suffer due to misuse of his/her ticket. The liability of member shall continue till he/she surrenders his/her cards or reports the loss of his/her cards to the library.
  • Library ticket of habitual defaulters can be detained for a period of 6 months and entry to library can be banned during this period.

THE RULES OF INTERNET USAGE:

  • Internet will be available for use from Monday to Friday from 09.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M., and 09.00 AM to 1.00 PM on Saturdays.
  • Users are allowed to use this facility only for academic & educational purpose & not for personal purposes.
  • Password will be available only with the library staff assigned for the duty
  • User will be allowed entry with valid Library card only.
  • Depending upon the rush, time constraints may be applied by the library staff on duty.
  • All user are required to make LEGIBLE entry in the register kept for this purpose.
  • User is NOT ALLOWED to make any change in the setting of PC, adding any executable programs, deleting files etc.
  • User should not remove/damage any hardware, wire etc. or interchange keyboard, mouse etc.
  • Downloading of software other than required for academic purpose is not allowed.

LIBRARY SERVICES:

REPROGRAPHIC SERVICES:

  • Photocopy: Photocopies of available literature are provided for academic use for Faculty Members & PG students only.
  • Printing: Printing facility is available for records searched from the Internet for academic, research and patient care purpose only for Faculty Members & PG students only.

REFERENCE AND CONSULTATION:

The library remains open from 09.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M. on Monday to Friday, and 09.00 AM to 1.00 PM on Saturdays.

LIBRARY RESOURCES:

  1. Books: Library has 14877 books of Homoeopathy, Biomedical science and Allied subjects. Latest and valuable books are purchased around the month of February every year.
  2. Journals:
    1. Back Volumes: Library has a collection of back volumes of journals.
    2. Current Journals: Library is subscribing 7 journals of international & national repute.
  3. Thesis: Library has a collection of 497 thesis of research work undertaken in this institution.
